Limestone Hall
Game room

Five tables on the old cutting floor

Raw stone walls, a rail overhead, one lamp per table, somebody from the floor always in the room and not a cent riding on anything.

How the hall runs

Taking a chair

A hand being dealt beneath the gantry

Four tables are walk-in and work in the order people arrive. One can be held by phone for up to six, and it goes back to the room fifteen minutes after the agreed time.

Each table gets a fresh deck weekly, a lamp and a score pad. The pads go in the bin at close — we keep no ladder, no history and no record of who did well.

The floor teaches rather than referees. If a game is new to you, say so and somebody will sit down and walk you through a couple of hands before they leave you to it.

  • What gets played

Five hundred, canasta, crib and a friendly hold'em — points only.

  • Seats per table

Six at most, four at the Sunday teaching table.

  • Counters

House property, lent for the night, worth nothing at any point.
